Position description:
A PhD Research Assistantship is available at Clemson University for a motivated Ph.D. student to conduct innovative research on soil fertility and nutrient management in Southeastern US cropping systems.

Research responsibilities:
The successful candidate will develop and test research hypotheses, conduct soil sampling across diverse farms, design and implement laboratory and field experiments. Additionally, the candidate will perform statistical data analysis and interpretation, present findings at conferences & extension meetings, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.

Location:
Research will be conducted at the Edisto Research and Education Center in Blackville, SC, and on various farms across South Carolina while completing coursework at Clemson University’s main campus or virtually.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundation in soil sciences with laboratory and field sampling experience
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in research teams
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork in South Carolina

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Southeast US cropping systems and agricultural practices
  • Strong adaptability, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
  • Experience with data management, statistical analysis, and scientific writing
